Dad holding babyEven though Father’s Day is next week, our family decided to celebrate Father’s Day all week this week by doing our FHEasy lesson on Father’s Day tonight and reading our daily scriptures about fathers this week. Then we’ll have a big family party for my husband, including presents and homemade ice cream, on the actual Father’s Day.

So for all of you who are looking forward to celebrating Father’s Day, here’s a free Father’s Day lesson and correlating scriptures. It won’t be up forever [in fact it’s no longer posted], so please go ahead and download it right away. For more free lessons, FHE support, and other tips for family home evenings and scripture study, I invite you to subscribe to my blog by entering your information on the right sidebar.

Also, here’s our family’s favorite recipe for homemade ice cream. Enjoy!

Happy Father’s Day! And, as always, Happy Home Evenings!

Update: Elder Christofferson gave a wonderful talk about Fathers in the last General Conference (April 2016). Here’s the link.

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Blend together:

  • 3 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups heavy cream

Freeze in an ice cream maker. Alternatively, you can freeze it in a large container, stirring every half hour till it’s solid. Or you can blend in frozen fruit for a great fruity milkshake. This recipe makes about one and a half quarts of ice cream.

Note: I highly recommend the Donvier Ice Cream Maker. It makes about one and a half quarts of incredible ice cream in about twenty minutes. We can barely fit this whole recipes in a 1-quart maker. We’ve also found we can make two batches back to back. It just takes the second batch longer to freeze.
