Scripture MemorizationScripture memorization can be a really great part of your family scripture time, and many children genuinely enjoy it. Sometimes the bigger issue is remembering to include scripture memorization in your routine. Here are five tips to help you incorporate scripture memorization into your family scripture study.

  • Every Sunday, have your children write out the scripture of the week from the topic you’ll be studying out of your FHEasy book. Then, have them draw a picture representing the practical application of the scripture. For a list of the scriptures of the week used in FHEasy, click here.
  • Every day during family scripture time, read the theme scripture first and have the family recite it or sing it if it’s an Article of Faith. Then, read the scripture for the day.
  • Make a copy of some or all of the theme scriptures for each of your children. Tape them near your children’s beds. When they go to bed or get up, they will be more likely to see and read the scriptures. Also, you could talk to them about the theme scripture when you go in to say good night or help them with their prayers if they are very young.
  • People of all ages love stickers, so consider using a sticker chart. It can be a blank piece of colored paper that your children randomly stick stickers on when they memorize any scripture. Or it can be a paper with a list of scriptures and a space after each reference for stickers to be put.
  • Decide on a special treat or activity to enjoy when someone makes a memorization goal. Goals could be that everyone memorizes a chosen scripture or one person memorizes all the Articles of Faith.

Whatever you decide to do, keep your approach light and encouraging so your children have a good experience with scripture memorization.

Happy Scripture Study!
