Fourth of JulyNext Monday is the fourth of July, so if you are a US citizen, now’s a good time to take a minute and think about your FHEasy plans. I have some ideas to share below, but before I forget, here’s last year’s post on one of my favorite “red, white, and blue” desserts: berries and cream. It’s super fast, healthy, delicious, and an easy addition to a holiday get together. Enjoy!

When a holiday is on Sunday or Monday, I usually like to talk about it the week before as we anticipate the celebration, which is why I’m posting this a week before the Fourth of July. If we feel like we want to focus more on the history of our country, we’ll do another week on it.

Two weeks in a row? The same topic?

Sure. There are more ideas in each FHEasy lesson than I ever use in one night, so using the same lesson plan for two weeks is fine. Plus, the day of the holiday is usually full of family activities, so the lesson will likely be extra short. I’d like another day when we can focus more on the lesson anyway.

For family scripture study, we will work on memorizing the theme scripture one week and we’ll read the daily scriptures the other week.

Whether you are living in the U.S. or not, you can use this holiday to teach a few neat things:

  • The United States was the country where the gospel was restored, so you can focus on the gospel and the restoration of it.
  • The Fourth of July is also called “Independence Day”. You can talk about “independence” and freedom and talk about how your choices determine your level of personal freedom.
  • The United States flag is a symbol of the country and represents the history and character traits that citizens value. You can have everyone design their own personal flags that symbolize the things they value and their character OR make a family flag.

I would love to hear about your family’s home evening and scripture study successes. If you would like to share them with me and have your ideas posted on my website, please contact me here.

Happy Home Evenings!
