hearts In honor of Valentine’s Day and our month on love and marriage, today I’m sharing a fabulous, quick, healthy dessert: Bliss Balls! I thought they’d be appropriate since we’d all love more bliss in our relationships, right?

I also want to get you thinking about how the 4 Ts could apply to other key relationships in your life. … Let’s start there and end with dessert, shall we?

Reviewing the 4 Ts

i-love-you-in-aslOkay, if you don’t know what the 4 Ts are in detail, read last week’s post where I introduce them. For those in review mode, here they are:

  1. Time – invest time, but no need to drown yourselves.
  2. Talk – 5:1 ration of positive to negative communication. 10:1 if you are healing a relationship.
  3. Trust – This comes naturally, but make sure you are acting with integrity and you are trustWORTHY.
  4. Touch – Don’t skip steps 1-3! Go through them in order and when you naturally grow into the touch stage, it will be very connecting and fulfilling.

Applying the 4 Ts to Key Relationships

How’s your relationships with your kids? If you are close to your kids, think about how you’ve invested time with them, how you talk to them, how you are trustworthy with them, and how you touch them (hugs, kisses, touching their shoulders …). If you’re not close, start at step 1 and watch how you think about and talk to your kids.

How’s your relationship with yourself? How much time do you spend alone, investing in self-care? How do you think about and talk to yourself? Do you trust yourself? Are you loving to your physical body by keeping your body clean and by dressing and grooming your body nicely?

How’s your relationship with your family of origin and your extended family? Are their relationships you’d like to improve there? If so, how can you use the 4 Ts to build those relationships?

How about your relationship to God? hearts-growing-in-love

  1. What would just spending time with God look like in your life? Walking in nature? Reading the scriptures? Meditating?
  2. How do you talk to and listen to God? Do you keep a ratio of 5:1 positive to negative communications with God or do your prayers mostly consist of complaints and desperate pleas for help?
  3. Trust. Do you trust God? If not, you’re certainly not alone. Go to step 1 if you want to rebuild that trust. If you do trust God, think about how you got to that point. What kind of time and talk investments have you made to develop the relationship of trust that you have?
  4. Touch. What does it mean to you to “touch” God? Does that mean He is able to work through you because you’re so close to Him? Does it mean you clearly feel His love daily?

Your daily relationship with yourself, your spouse, your kids, and God will seriously affect the quality of your family home evenings and scripture study, so I highly encourage you to prayerfully consider the above questions.

Bliss Balls

Another things that could impact the quality of your home evenings is bliss balls. No kidding. This is a quick, whole food dessert that I hope you love! I got the recipe from my awesome health coach Sarah Klein. Her WholeHealthLab.com blog post sharing this recipe is here. It is very adaptable, so play with it and adjust it till you find just the right recipe for you and your family. Thanks, Sarah!

Ingredients:

  • bliss-balls1.5 cups pitted medjool dates
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • ½ cup walnuts
  • ½ cup almonds
  • ½ cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1 dollop honey
  • 1 cup raw cacao
  • 1 tablespoon maca powder (If you can find this, use it! It’s a great superfood and very energizing. If you can’t find it or don’t have it, just omit it from the recipe. It’ll still taste good and be healthy for you.)
  • shredded coconut (no sugar added)

Directions:

Combine dates, chia seeds, walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, honey, cacao & maca into high power blender or food processor. Blend until it looks like brownie mix. You may need to pause the blender/food processor and stir occasionally during this process. Remove and shape into 1.5-inch thick balls. Roll balls into coconut. Double your batch and freeze half, they freeze well. Store in refrigerator. Eat 1 to 2 as an energizing snack — even those these are healthy, you can still eat too many and feel overfull, so just be aware of that.

Happy Home Evenings!
