Ed Tyll, Radio Host

Want to know what foot rubs have to do with emotional intimacy?

I was on Ed Tyll’s national radio show a few days ago and he really zoned in on foot rubs and intimacy (emotional and physical) as ways to connect spouses, but the concept of foot rubs and emotional intimacy with any family member applies.

On the interview, we talked about three tips for how to connect regularly with your spouse, which could apply to any family member with a little tweaking:

  1. Foot rubs, especially with essential oils (I personally love doTERRA oils). My children LOVE it when I rub their feet with oils! My husband loves it, too, and I even love it when I give myself a foot rub! It a unique way of releasing stress and relaxing and connecting with the person doing the rubbing.
  2. Weekly pre-planned “catch up and cuddle” sessions. Ideally for marriage partners, this is a physically intimate date, but that depends on where each couple is in their marriage. Tweaking this to apply to children, could you sit nearby and watch a movie, read a book, take a drive and just catch up with each other?
  3. Watching a show together with a “no interruptions” rule. By this I mean, turn off the phone, lock the door, and pull the curtains if you have to! When I was growing up, we frequently watched a weekly family show together. I remember laughing at the Cosby Show, being in awe of McGyver’s genius, and enjoying Dr. Quinn trek around in her long hair and long dresses. And on Sundays, we’d often watch Johnny Lingo. It was really fun watching those shows together!

In the interview, Ed also asked me about how I got to be so interested in marital connection, so a short version of my story is at around 12 minutes. Click here to listen to the interview.

Ed is really enthusiastic and fun to listen to. I got a big kick out of doing this interview with him, especially when he announced his single status and told any female listeners who were interested in dating him that he loves the ideas we were discussing!

Hopefully, you find the interview to be interesting and hear some good tips that you can start applying today.

To your marriage and to more…

Happy Home Evenings!
